History Of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport


Since Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport stopped operating.

So Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was inaugurated as the main airport of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia

Soekarno–Hatta International Airport abbreviated as "Soetta Airport" has the international aviation code "CGK".

This airport is named after the dual figure of the proclaimer of Indonesian independence.

Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta were also the first Indonesian President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.

So to honor the services of the proclaimer who spearheaded the independence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Their name was chosen as the name of Soekarno–Hatta International Airport today.

Which was then immortalized by making a statue of Proclaimer Soekarno-Hatta.

This 7.8 meter high statue was then inaugurated by President Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday, August 29, 2008.

This monument was created by Sunaryo, a famous sculpture artist from Bandung, who also created the General Sudirman Statue on Jl. Sudirman, Jakarta.


Airport Location

Soekarno–Hatta International Airport is located in the Benda area, Kosambi, Tangerang City, Banten.

Which is about 20 km northwest of Central Jakarta which can be reached from all directions.

Airport Construction

The process of building Soekarno–Hatta International Airport began from 1975 to 1981.

Initially, construction of Soekarno Hatta International Airport began with the following development plans:

  • 3 asphalt road runways.
  • 3 terminal buildings. international.
  • 3 domestic terminals.
  • 1 Hajj terminal.


Airport Manager

PT. Angkasa Pura II has received the trust of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to manage Soekarno-Hatta International Airport since August 13 1984.

Construction of Terminal 1


It was the first terminal built, completed in 1985.

Located on the south side of the airport, opposite Terminal 2. Terminal 1 has 3 sub-terminals, namely A, B and C.


Construction of Terminal 2


Terminal 2 was completed in 1992, located on the north side of the airport, opposite Terminal 1.

Terminal 2 has 3 sub-terminals which start with the letters D, E and F.


Construction of Terminal 3


Terminal 3 is planned to be able to accommodate a passenger capacity of 4 million passengers per year.

Terminal 3 was fully operational on 9 August 2016.

This terminal adopts a different design from other terminals, namely by using an eco-friendly and modern concept.

The old Terminal 3 is to the east of Terminal 2.



Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC)


On April 5 2018, the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) was inaugurated, which is an integrated command post that monitors airport operations.

AOCC is a collaboration between:

PT Angkasa Pura II as airport, airline and air navigation.

With related authorities such as Quarantine, Customs, Immigration, Police and so on
